Parking at Seashell Cottage

When this traditional fisherman cottage was built in the 1850’s, cars hadn’t yet been invented, so no space can be found on site. But fear not, dedicated parking for Seashell Cottage can be found just behind the house.

Where to find the car park space?

RCP Freeman St Car Park (808101)

Reserved space located directly behind the walled courtyard of Seashell Cottage. It is a private car park managed by RCP Parking and operates a number plate recognition (NPR) system.

Only the Car Registration provided at the time of booking will be able to park for free.

Parking FAQs

  • The Glebe has yellow lines so it is not advisable to park for long durations, you run the risk of getting a ticket or worse, being clamped or towed by the local authorities.

    It is acceptable to park up at the front door to unload a single car, before moving the vehicle to your permanent parking space.

  • Short answer is no, you don't have to display anything in the car window.

    RCP car parks work on number plate recognition. The car reg plate you registered with your booking will add you automatically for the duration of your stay and can park anywhere inside the Freeman Street car park operated by RCP. The dedicated space for Seashell Cottage, is just to ensure you have a space during peak season, when Wells car parks can be full, even before breakfast has finished.

  • Only the car registration registered at time of booking will have free use of the RCP car park for the duration of their stay.

    A vehicle parked in the Seashell cottage dedicated bay that is any other than the pre-registered car with booking, will not be exempt from additional fees or will be at risk of a parking fine. All visitors or second cars will need to arrange their own parking.

  • There are lots of roads and many parts of this town where parking is free and without permits. But parking spaces cannot be guaranteed, especially during the peak season.

  • From the quay, Wells beach is an enjoyable mile long walk along the seas defences that run along the nature reserve and boat yards. For those who are carrying a lot of stuff (or less mobile), you will find a shuttle bus service that runs from the quayside, all the way to the beach cafe.

    During the peak season, the main beach car park can be full from very early in the moring and the overfill car park is little closer to the beach than Seashell Cottage's location.
